Why We’re Updating Our Dress Code Policy

We want to share the thinking behind our updated dress code policy in a clear and transparent way. Clothing and personal presentation can feel personal, and we recognize that any change in this area deserves more than a simple list of do’s and don’ts.

The goal is not to limit individuality unnecessarily. It is to create guidance that is practical, consistent, and aligned with the different ways our teams work today.

What guided the update

This update was shaped by employee feedback, operational needs, safety considerations, customer and visitor expectations, and the everyday realities of our workplace. We also wanted expectations to be easier to understand and apply fairly across teams.

Safety comes first

Some roles, environments, and tasks require attire that helps reduce risk and supports compliance. The updated policy gives clearer guidance for footwear, protective clothing, accessories, and other items that can affect safety while people are moving.

A shared experience

How we present ourselves contributes to the experience customers, clients, visitors, and community partners have with us. The intent is to reflect professionalism, trust, and care while still allowing appropriate personal expression and role-specific flexibility.

Comfort and practicality

We know people work in different settings and conditions. The updated policy is designed to account for seasonal needs, hybrid work, physical tasks, customer-facing moments, and the practical reality of getting through a full workday comfortably.

Clarity helps everyone

Clearer expectations make it easier for employees and managers to make decisions without guesswork. They also help us apply the policy consistently across teams, reducing uneven interpretation and making conversations more respectful and objective.

What you can expect

The updated policy is intended to be guidance, not a substitute for good judgment or team-specific conversation. Managers will be asked to apply it with consistency, respect, and awareness of role requirements. If a situation is unclear, the first step should be a conversation, not an assumption.

We also recognize that accommodations may be needed for medical, religious, cultural, disability-related, or other protected reasons. Employees should feel comfortable reaching out to their manager or the People team for support.

Please review the updated policy

Take a few minutes to read through the updated dress code and consider how it applies to your role, work setting, and team routines. If you have questions, we encourage you to bring them forward.
