Updated Pickup & Delivery Safety Procedures

Please review before your next route. These procedures are now in effect for all pickup and delivery stops.

Why this matters

These updates are designed to protect drivers, customers, facility teams, freight, and company operations. Consistent procedures help reduce avoidable incidents, delays, documentation errors, and compliance risks.

KEY RULE: Follow site-specific instructions every time.

At every location, observe posted signage, dock rules, customer requirements, PPE instructions, and supervisor directions. If a site requirement conflicts with your route plan or feels unsafe, pause and contact dispatch or your supervisor before proceeding.

1. Arrival & Check-In

  • Park only in approved areas.
  • Check in with the designated site contact.
  • Wear all required PPE before entering work areas.
  • Do not block entrances, exits, fire lanes, or active dock paths.
  • Confirm pickup or delivery details before loading or unloading.

2. Loading & Unloading

  • Use proper lifting techniques and available equipment.
  • Stay clear of forklifts, pallet jacks, liftgates, and active dock traffic.
  • Inspect freight for visible damage before moving it.
  • Confirm load securement before departure.
  • Report unsafe conditions before proceeding.

3. Documentation & Compliance

MANDATORY RULE: No pickup or delivery is complete until documentation is accurate.

  • Capture signatures, photos, or proof of delivery when required.
  • Verify quantities against the order, bill of lading, or route instructions.
  • Note exceptions immediately, including shortage, overage, damage, refusal, or access issues.
  • Submit documents through the approved system before leaving the stop when required.
  • Do not estimate, backfill, or delay required compliance records.

4. Customer Interaction

Be professional, calm, and clear at every stop. Follow the site contact’s instructions, avoid arguments, and do not take shortcuts under pressure. If a customer requests a process that conflicts with company procedure, contact dispatch before continuing.

5. Incident Reporting

Report injuries, spills, damaged freight, security concerns, vehicle issues, missed procedure steps, or unsafe conditions immediately. Early reporting helps protect you, the customer, and the team.

Before leaving each stop, confirm:

  • PPE was used as required.
  • Freight was verified.
  • Load is secure.
  • Documentation was completed and submitted.
  • Hazards, exceptions, or incidents were reported.

When in doubt, pause and ask.

If you are unsure about a site instruction, safety condition, customer request, or documentation requirement, contact dispatch or your supervisor before continuing. The safest choice is always the right choice.
