Culture Spotlight: The Great Friday Mug Parade
| |
The Great Friday Mug Parade started as a casual “wait, what are you drinking coffee from?” moment and somehow became a weekly ritual. Now, teammates across departments show up with the funniest, strangest, most sentimental, or most aggressively practical mug they can find.
No mug is too ordinary, too tiny, too giant, or too hard to explain. The only rule: if there’s a story behind it, we want to hear it.

This week’s mug lineup: look closely for the dinosaur handle, the “emergency tea” jar, and at least three mugs that appear to have their own personality.
It gives us a tiny shared moment before the day takes off. A mug story can turn into a travel tip, a recipe exchange, a pet cameo, or a department crossover chat that would not have happened otherwise.

Tiny Ritual, Big Connection
Remote, hybrid, or in-office, everyone can join with whatever is nearby. Fancy ceramic? Great. Reused jam jar? Iconic. Company water bottle? A minimalist statement.

OVERHEARD DURING THE PARADE
“Is that mug load-bearing?”
A fair question, honestly. Some of these mugs look structurally important.
Most mysterious mug: Priya’s matte black “definitely not haunted” cup with no visible handle and a very dramatic backstory.
Marcus brought a chipped mug from his first week on the team. It has survived three desk moves and two office plants
Jordan’s mug may technically be a bowl. We respect the ambition and the caffeine capacity of a tanker.

Next Friday, bring your favorite mug to standup and be ready for a 10-second story. Joining from home? Perfect. Joining from the office? Also perfect. Forgot your mug? Any beverage vessel counts if you believe in it strongly enough.

Got a tradition, ritual, or inside joke we should spotlight next? Send it our way. The weirder, warmer, and more wonderfully specific, the better.
