Clarifying Dress Code Expectations by Work Location

Different roles and work environments have different dress code needs. This email clarifies which expectations apply to office-based employees, on-site employees, and field-based employees so everyone can choose appropriate attire with confidence.

Office-Based Employees

Employees working primarily in an office setting should follow professional, business casual, or company-appropriate attire standards. Clothing should be neat, clean, and suitable for a workplace environment.

Please take extra care to dress appropriately for client meetings, visitor interactions, presentations, interviews, formal events, or any occasion where you are representing the company externally.

On-Site and Field Employees

For employees working on-site, in the field, or in operational environments, safety, practicality, and site requirements come first. Follow any requirements for PPE, uniforms, protective footwear, high-visibility clothing, weather-appropriate gear, or customer- and site-specific standards.

If a site has stricter requirements than the general company dress code, the site requirements apply. Please ensure required safety items are worn correctly and are in good condition before beginning work.

When Work Settings Change

Follow the dress code for the location, activity, or audience you are reporting to that day. This may change when attending office meetings, visiting a client, supporting site work, joining training, or traveling between locations.

Shared Expectations for Everyone

All employees are expected to wear clean, workplace-appropriate clothing, maintain a respectful and professional appearance, comply with safety requirements, and avoid attire that creates a safety risk or conflicts with workplace policy.

If You Are Unsure

If you are uncertain which dress code applies to your role or a specific workday, please check with your manager, HR, or the employee handbook before reporting to work. Managers can also provide guidance for role-specific, customer-specific, or site-specific requirements.

Thank you for helping maintain a workplace that is professional, safe, consistent, and appropriate for the work we do in every environment.
